Lifted Roof Abodes

Dunn & Hillam Architects Build a House Fit for Arid Conditions

Dunn & Hillam Architects have built a house in Alice Springs, Australia, which can get unbearably hot in the summer months with little to no relief. In order to make sure that the owners were not sweltering all day, the firm constructed the abode in a way to encourage appropriate airflow and keep things cool.

To achieve this, a secondary roof has been placed on an angle at the top of the abode, which helps to keep things cool underneath. Moreover, this roof provides an added amount of shade to the outside sections of the house, so residences can enjoy the weather without becoming overheated.

Titled 'The Desert House,' this is quite a fitting name considering the blistering hot climate of the area. Photo Credits: designboom, dunnhillam.au
