Aside from the issue of sunlight, I think it would be quite incredible to live within a hill, in a home much like the Dune House by William Morgan.
Essentially a pair of mirrored underground townhouses, this project adopts a Lord of the Rings aesthetic with a very different initial inspiration. The architect did not simply landscape a hill and then hollow it out into a dwelling, he actually began with this earthy mound, created when a hurricane hit the shoreline of Atlantic Beach.
Instead of leveling off the site before building, the designer made the decision to work with it as it was. A pair of doors at the front and two windows facing the water give the Dune House by William Morgan a distinctive Hobbit hole appearance, filled with a remarkably modern finish.
