Donna Bates' 'Parlour Lighting' Was Inspired by Dairy Farms

Unless you grew up or worked on a farm, chances are you won't recognize the inspiration behind Donna Bates' Parlour Lighting series. Bates is an Irish designer who grew up in a rural area. Her latest lighting series is inspired by glass vats found in milking parlors. The lights are actually made by the same folks who make the vats and are designed to look as realistic as possible.

Said realism comes in the form of measurement lines and shading that makes the bottom of the lights look as if they're filled with milk. There are six different lamps that make up the series. Donna Bates' work was on display at the recent Clerkenwell Design Week.
