OMA Has Revealed Its Design for an Innovation Center in South Chicago

Dutch architecture studio OMA has revealed its design for a domed innovation center made with glass and metal. Located in Chicago, the space will be utilized by Discovery Partners Institute as the American research organization's headquarters.

The domed innovation center spans 200,000 square feet. It will house office space, classrooms, and laboratories on the upper levels. The ground floor will welcome the public with cafes and retail spaces.

The exterior of the domed innovation center exudes contemporary sensibilities. The facade incorporated glass and metal panels. OMA intentionally chose soft and transparent forms in order to "offer an open invitation for the community to the building and its network."

The plans reveal that construction of this building will begin in 2024.
