Hospital Patient-Designed Sneakers

Nike's Zoom Fly SP Doernbecher Reflects a Patient's Passions

Nike is readying its new Doernbecher Freestyle collection of the year by unveiling a closer look at its iconic Zoom Fly SP sneaker redesigned by Payton Fentress. The Nike Zoom Fly SP Doernbecher is one of the sneakers designed by the patients of Portland's OHSU Doernbecher Children's Hospital -- with all of the proceeds going back towards the hospital. Fentress is a patient who suffers from Crohn's disease and her colorful version of the sneaker recalls some of her own personal passions.

The sneaker is finished in a mixture of 'Blue Hero,' 'Green Shock' and 'Habanero Red.' Fentress' iteration recalls her admiration of baseball and the Chicago Cubs, seen through baseball motifs at the tongue and insole that show the Cub's World Series championship in 2016.
