Projecting Safety Headlights

The Digital Light Projection System Takes Road Safety to a New Level

Daimler is looking to make drivers safer with its new technology known as 'Digital Light.' The system focuses on a car's headlights and will turn them into projectors that display information on the road in front of the driver. Digital Light will work with the car's onboard sensors, as well as traffic and obstacle data GPS devices rely on, to provide important information on the road. The current version of Digital Light can project symbols such as snowflakes, construction symbols, turning arrows and even simple white lines to aid in parking.

The Digital Light system was first demoed as a concept 10 years ago, but at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, it is finally ready to debut in actual vehicles. Digital Light is expected to appear as a feature on certain Mercedes-Maybach S-Class vehicles, with an eventual roll-out on later Mercedes vehicles.
