Knowing that many people find it more entertaining to take pictures of food than it is to pick and choose what goes on there plate when adhering to a strict diet, SRI International developed the Snap'n'Eat diet app.
Rather than having a use manually log what it is that they're eating, the app automatically picks up on what's on a plate and assigns it nutritional information and caloric content. With the app, researchers at SRI International have found that they are able to get about 85% accuracy when matching a food item to relevant data.
The app is still in the early stages, but SRI International could be on the way to developing a system that's easily able to detect when a person is eating too much or not enough from a certain food group.
