3andwich Design Builds Facilities for a Desert Campsite in China

Chinese studio 3andwich Design embarked on a project to conceptualize new facilities for a desert campsite in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. Recently, the project was completed.

Two brand new structures adorn the sandy landscape. The Lishui-based studio drew inspiration from desert history and myths. One of the buildings is described as "a half-buried jewelry box" and features a weather steel shell that subtly blends with the environment. The other building features a stack of white cubic forms, adding a geometric curiosity to the project. 3andwich Design also included a "matching canopy structure" nearby. The new additions to the desert campsite include catering facilities, storage, a multifunctional hall, and—of course—the outdoor stage which is 'housed' by the canopy structure.

The project was embarked on in response to the recent desert tourism boom.
