The Dark Design Group Summer Cafe is a temporary pop-up shop that uses materials in a cost-effective manner. Constructed in city of Ufa, Russia, the cafe is set to operate only during the summer.
The design considers a number of challenges when creating a space that needed to be budget-proof and temporary. Using a series of angled wooden frames, the structure is designed to be durable, yet easy to deconstruct come fall. Gaps in the frames allow light to filter through during the daytime, reducing the amount of energy needed for operation. The walls of the cafe are made of OSB, an inexpensive material similar to wooden fiberboard. Clean-cut black and white furnishings were chosen to highlight the simplicity of the interior.
