The Fall 2013 Collection from G-sus Sindustries is a stunningly varied series featuring everything from folklore-inspired designs to dandy fashion. Its vibrant patterns, cozy fabrics and loose-fitting shapes make these garments the perfect addition to any autumn wardrobe, and have once again proven that G-sus Sindustries is one of the most innovative and daring fashion studios in the world.
Trend Hunter was lucky enough to go behind the scenes at the G-sus preview in Toronto for a sneak peek of this striking collection, and an in-depth interview with the Canadian brand manager Everton McDougall about the inspirations behind these stellar designs.
1. What’s the inspiration behind this collection?
This collection is called Russian Dandy. It’s traditional Russian folklore, with military elements added to it. The tagline for our company is "Made by instincts," so what we did with our denim section was take inventors and use their names to represent the different pieces, from Tesla to Newton to Da Vinci. For the ladies’ jeans, we've used flowers to represent each piece, from the rose to bell flowers to the lilac.
2. Which piece in the denim collection would you say is trending?
In the ladies’ section there’s one of my favorites, which is the 'Rosa' in a slim fit. It’s infused with aloe vera, which soaks into the skin to make it smooth.
3. How do the military elements factor into the Russian Dandy collection?
For one piece, we used a bonded fleece on the inside of a jacket, with a military pattern on its outside. At the end of the day, we’re known for our prints. To keep our company's DNA, we have lots of military prints all over the collection.
4. What do you think is one of the biggest trends of this year?
One of the biggest trends this year is an off-the-body jacket. We've created some in three different fabrics to create three different looks. We also have tweed blazers and vests for the men, which I think will be popular next season.
