Floris Wubben Designs the Crystal Twist with Baars & Bloemhoff

Amsterdam-based designer Floris Wubben designs the Crystal Twist lighting collection for his design studio. The capsule of illuminating pieces is comprised of HI-MACS acrylic stone materials made to look as if it is ripping apart in a cylindrical structure. This type of materials is often used for clean and sleek surface finishes such as countertops. Wubben takes it down a much different route with an organic quality to it.

When experimenting with the capsule, Wubben found that the material could be ripped apart when it reaches a certain heat. After that, he made a tool that would assist in tearing off the acrylic stone to create a clean spiral form. To complete the lamp product, Wubben layers the stone to allow light to shine through the cracks and emphasize the ripped up edges.
