Environmentally-conscious energy can be derived from the sun, which is the largest source of natural energy, but it can also come from the wind—the second largest source. This cross-wind bridge produces wind power and electricity to light the bridge through a network of rotating panels that rotate according to the speeds of the vehicles moving underneath it.
The cross-wind bridge is the brainchild of design team Tiago Barros and Jorge Pereira, in collaboration with Ines Valente, Rob Foobe III, Yoon-young Hur, Natalie Batile, and Joao Paulo Ferrandes. It spreads 40 meters over the Segunda Circular Highway in Lisbon, and also provides a tunnel for pedestrians and bikers.
