This Contemporary Staircase Adds a Modern Element to Its 18th CE Home

Arrokabe Arquitectos, a Spanish architecture firm, revamped an 18th-century house to incorporate modern elements, including a stunning contemporary staircase.

The townhouse has a traditional exterior from its street view, making it complement the houses that surround it in its Santiago de Compostela location. However, once stepping inside, inhabitants are greeted with a sleek modern feel, with white walls and light wood flooring.

The contemporary staircase ascends between two storeys with each stair seeming to float in mid-air. The wooden slabs are held up by thin white supports that hang from above. This allows the staircase to better supply the rest of the home with natural light, as the see-though design lets it carry through and open up the space.
