Twisted Kitchen Counters

This Contemporary Kitchen Design Adds a Modern Touch to Homes

This kitchen by UK-based designer Darren Morgan considers how traditional craftsmanship and contemporary styling should merge to evolve our perceptions of traditional kitchen design.

The design considers how functional furniture can be manipulated to deliver something beyond practicality and how the beauty of traditional materials should not be underestimated. The use of wood gives the design great warmth allowing the installation to become a soothing and holistic influence within the space.

The island is twisted and curved to allow the entire design to maneuver itself away from architectural nip points; this also ensures that entry points to the kitchen remain open and clear and that functional eddy’s are created within the concaves of the island shape.

The up-lit ceiling bulkheads provide the design with some contemporary undertones whilst complementing the more traditional chandelier.

The design demonstrates how artisan techniques can be used to deliver flamboyant stylistic statements whist providing the type of design longevity normally associated with traditional design.
