Dynamic Surfaces

Architects Embrace Concrete Blocks

No more ugly concrete block buildings. The designers of concrete blocks wanted to keep the cost of building with blocks low, but also wanted to add some architectural interest. Over 12 concrete blocks were designed, that when finished, made walls that are really out of the ordinary. "We were able to find ways to change the face of CMU blocks to create more dynamic wall surfaces," a spokesperson for the Minnesota Masonry Institute said.

The blocks won a prestigious award from Architect Magazine.
