Compact House Proposals

Award-Winning Torii House by Julia and Stas Kaptur is 270 Square-Feet

The concept of the livable and compact house by Moscow-based architects Julia and Stas Kaptur won second place in a recent micro dwelling competition that set a limit of 270 square feet per entry. The Torii House is a specially economic modular design that fits a bedroom, living room, kitchen and a bathroom.

Dividing the compact house into three main areas, Julia and Stas ensure that the rooms communicate with each other. While the central living area and the bedroom share a working fire place, the windows can slide open and thereby stylistically enlarge the space. In their proposal for the compact house, the architects include the possibility of the structure's core module to be customized by the resident.
