Commemorative Sci-Fi Coins

These Collectible Coins Honor Star Trek's 50th Anniversary

In order to mark the 50th anniversary of Star Trek, the Royal Canadian Mint created a special set of collectible coins for fans. The retro-inspired set includes images of characters and elements from the 1966 TV show which adorn a variety of gold, silver and three-ply nickel plated steel coins.

Of all of these Star Trek-themed coins, the one that holds the highest value is a $200 pure gold coin that is shaped after the iconic Star Trek emblem. There are also coins of $10 and $20 values available to collectors, which will be limited to a production of just 12,500 coins.

These collectible coins recently made their debut at Ottawa's Canada Aviation and Space Museum by the Royal Canadian Mint's president and Canadian actor William Shatner, who played Capt. Kirk in the series.
