Coffin-Like Chair Designs

Yeyang Liao's Coffin Chair is a Cremation-Friendly Furniture Item

This curvacious coffin chair is conceived by Yeyang Liao — a graduate from London's Central Saint Martins.

The silhouette of the furniture is curvaceous and sculptural, consisting of "12 slightly different molds" that have been arranged with a precision-centric "digital molding technique." Aside from a strikingly curious design, Yeyang Liao envisions the coffin chair to have a very specific purpose. As the notion of death has been increasingly present in projects, the young designer's curvaceous seating is also dedicated to it. As a result, the coffin chair is meant not only as a functional furniture piece, but also an object that can be used as "casting for [a] dead body before cremation. Due to this, Yeyang Liao used only wood and no metal components when developing the piece.
