Takashi Murakami Transformed a Room in a Children's Hospital in Washington

While CT/PET scans can be intimidating for patients of all ages, Japanese artist Takashi Murakami has updated one suite in a children's hospital in Washington to feel much more welcoming with colorful flower prints that are adhered to the machine itself, as well as the surrounding walls.

The artwork instantly transforms the hospital suite, taking it from a cold clinical space, to one that's more bright and positive. The hospitals Chief of Radiology, Dr. Corothy Bulas, spoke to the impact of the artwork, stating "The CT suite can be an imposing environment and some beauty and levity is so helpful. We hope that no[one] would need to come here, but when they do, we want to reassure them that they are getting the best care. The beauty of this RxART project provides more reassurance that they are in good hands." Photo Credits: designboom
