With the design for the Excellence Child Seat Concept, Volvo is rethinking the way young infants and children could be transported in the future.
The concept is more than just an enhanced car seat design, as it is station in the place of where the passenger seat would normally be. This configuration takes inspiration from the spaces that are commonly left unoccupied in chauffeur-driven cars. As well as offering a secure spot for a child, this unit also doubles as a footrest for the passenger who sits directly behind the infant strapped into the seat.
Although a novel and luxurious way for parents to travel with infants, Volvo ultimately developed this concept for primarily enhanced child safety, stating that the placement of forward-facing car seats in the back of the car causes a greater risk for child injury.
