Fairy Tale Tree Houses

Enter a Realm of Fantasy with the Cherry Blossom Tea House

While it might not be a castle, this cherry blossom tree house is the stuff that fairy tales are made of. Located in Hokuto City, Japan, the tree is supported by the trunk of a single Cypress tree, while the surrounding cherry blossom trees provide a gorgeous view.

Terunobu Fujimori is the architect behind this whimsical masterpiece, creating it specifically for the Kiyoharu Shirakaba Museum. On the surface, it looks like the tree house of your childhood dreams; however, it actually functions as a Japanese tea house. The exterior is a charming, old-world structure, while the interior is sleek, minimalist and practical. Despite its single-trunk support system, this structure is certainly able to weather a storm.

Fujimori’s architectural mantra, appears to be the following: "A building should not resemble anyone else’s buildings, past or present, or any style that has developed since the Bronze Age."
