Red-Tinged Moon Photos

These Photos of Charon Shed New Light on Pluto's Moon

Pluto may not be officially classified as a full planet anymore, but its moon Charon continues to fascinate and intrigue astronomers. To keep them happy, NASA has released some very high resolution images of Charon. These particular images were captured by the New Horizons spacecraft during its flyby of Pluto back in mid-July.

These images of Charon showcase a diverse array of features on the surface, including a reddish north polar region which mimics some of the hue on Pluto itself.

If you're annoyed that the photos of Pluto's moon took so long to get sent back to our own planet, don't be -- this means that more data is on the way and we could be treated to even more spectacular images of Charon and other planetary bodies in the coming months.
