Chaise by Benjamin Mahler is Made Out of Dowels and Elastics

At first, Chaise by Benjamin Mahler, a furniture designer based in Reims, France, may seem like the skeleton of an actual seat rather than the seat itself. Made out of only dowels and elastic, it could also pass for a tribute to scaffolding. Overall, in spite of its minimalist aesthetic, there is an intricacy that makes it appear more than it is.

Although a purely practical design, Chaise by Benjamin Mahler goes beyond that to better engage the viewer. As written by the designer, it is "a result that combines the purely functional constraint of the chair, and a robust ligature that provides the object appearance is obtained." In a way, it could be described more as a sculpture than a piece of furniture.
