Remotely Contemporary Cedar Cabins

Marc Thorpe Design Curates a Modest Escape in Freemont, NY

With contemporary sensibilities and functionality in mind, architectural practice Marc Thorpe Design creates a cedar cabin in a somewhat secluded destination. Located "two hours northwest in the western Catskill Mountains," the retreat spans a total of 500 square feet and it boasts a minimalist design.

Marc Thorpe Design dubs the cedar cabin ‘The Edifice’ and it seems that the architects were inspired by the writings of Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau. As a result, the building is "stripped back to the bare essentials," allowing itself to be engulfed by the natural surroundings. This, in turn, allows residence to deepen in their experience of solitude and rest from the hectic urban environment.
