Casa Zicatela Has a Concrete Barrier to Protect the Modern Interiors

Ludwig Godefroy created the Casa Zicatela, a solid and unassuming home in Oaxaca, Mexico. The monolithic structure offers a concrete barrier exterior that opens up to an intricate network of staircases made from stone that lead to open-air spaces.

Placed close to the beach, the home is made entirely from board-form concrete and refurbished wood pieces. The oversized steps lead down into an oasis of grassy courtyards and pools of water. Each room is arranged around the terrace with exposed concrete shades dominating the color palette.

Adding wooden screens and dark wooden accents, the design team created warm spaces throughout all of the Casa Zicatela, so that the design is flooded with natural light and views of the sky over the water.
