Car Parking Technologies' New Sensors Keep Handicap Spaces Safe

New Zealand-based Car Parking Technologies has developed a new device designed to ensure that only the disabled park in handicapped spots. The new system works with a set of electronic tags that are detected by the handicapped parking space when a driver parks.

If a driver parks in the space without the proper tags on his or her car, the lot manager is immediately notified so that the spot can be freed up for someone who actually needs it. Car Parking Technologies is in talks with malls and local authorities in New Zealand to implement its new design. The company's managing director, Paul Collins, believes the technology could eventually be expanded to ensure that private parking spaces stay private. If all goes well in New Zealand the technology has the potential to make it over to the United States.
