Artwork-Drawing Campaigns

The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam Instituted a Temporary Camera Ban

In an effort to get their visitors to better appreciate the art they display, the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam instituted a camera ban. Instead of taking pictures of the art within, the renowned Dutch museum encouraged guests to instead pick up a pencil and sketch the work they saw as part of their campaign dubbed 'The Big Draw.' This event ran over the weekend of October 24th and 25th, so the camera ban is no longer in effect. Since, the institution has also introduced a drawing series on Saturdays telling patrons "you see more when you draw."

This engaging and interactive campaign encouraged people to experience art in more detail and is line with a recent movement to step away from screens.
