The Calton Hill Play Shelter is located at the Collective Art Center in Edinburgh. Glasgow-based O'DonnellBrown designed the play shelter to accommodate various activities hosted by the center's learning program, such as loose parts play and family-oriented events.
The modular structure is demountable and boasts 25 square meters. Currently, Calton Hill Play Shelter stands in a flagstone courtyard outside the art venue. The design mimics the art center's classic architecture to create a sense of cohesion between the two structures. O'DonnellBrown created the modular structure out of timber. It also includes a polycarbonate roof cover that shelters the users while creating a clerestory-level gap. Its columns are removable and connected by wooden panels to create various walking routes throughout.
