Cake Reconstruction

I thought cavities were bad. These cake reconstruction portraits seem much more painful.

Dutch artist Ashkan Honarvar created these deliciously mangled portraits for his Faces collection. His subjects (or victims) appear to have either been involved in the most vicious food fight known to human kind, or plowed into a candy emporium by a drunkard in a Chevy. Pink icing appears as melted flesh. Red licorice drips from the subjects' faces like slow running blood. Fluffy vanilla cake could be anything from cartilage, exposed bone, or infected flesh. This cake reconstruction is disgusting….yet still so delicious. What may be the most chilling is the passive expression of the subjects. Maybe having a cake face isn't so bad.

The juxtaposition of something so sweet with something so fear inducing is enough to make your stomach churn. Whether in delight or horror, it’s hard to tell. Ashkan's cake reconstructions may have you reconsidering dessert…or craving it.
