The Busan Opera House Has a Super-Sized Teetering Shape

The Busan Opera House looks like a stack of super-sized smooth stones from a distance. This teetering shape gives this proposal a dramatic aesthetic, which is perfect for its theatrical purpose. This strong and imposing structure nevertheless has a surreal and whimsical appeal that makes it full of depth.

Designed by Boston-based studio PRAUD, the Busan Opera House proposal focuses on a more dynamic way of putting on performances and sharing public spaces.  PRAUD has introduced the idea of a transformable ‘cylinder’ to be used for both stage/chamber functions and structural stability. Discs in this cylinder are able to move vertically depending on the type and size of performance you need and the numbers of performances at the same time.
