Bulging Bamboo Pavilions

This Bamboo Pavilion is Functional and Visually Beautiful

Vietnam-based Vo Trong Nghia architects have gained widespread renown in the architecture and design worlds for the unique manner in which they integrate bamboo materials into their construction, but they may have outdone themselves with the bulbing bamboo pavilions that make up the Diamond Island Community Center.

Located on a tiny island on the Saigon River, these bamboo pavilions serve as condos and include a pair of huge pavilions and six smaller ones. The larger pavilions consist of carefully woven bamboo structures that rise up to a height of 12.5 meters, and are 24 meters wide. They are inspired by traditional Vietnamese bamboo baskets used to carry fowl.

These large bamboo pavilions help keep inhabitants cool and comfortable, but as a bonus are extremely pleasing to the eye as well.
