Technology Detox Campaigns

Cabela's Encourages a Break from Technology with 'Disconnect Day'

From the perspective of Cabela's Outdoor Fund, taking a break from technology means that you have more time to spend hunting, camping and fishing. Since it's hard to do these activities with a mobile device in hand, the organization is establishing Disconnect Day, asking people to challenge themselves to unplug from technology for just a day—meaning no phones, tablets, phablets, computers, emailing, social media or video chatting.

On the Disconnect Day microsite, Cabela's has people take the pledge by declaring the state they're in, choosing a day and sticking to it. So far, nearly 15,000 pledges have been submitted through the United States, with the most amount of digital detoxing coming from states like Texas, California, Nebraska, New York and Colorado.
