Mirrored Tiered Lighting

The Boll Lamp by Jonathan Dorthe Look Inspired by Rice Terraces

As though inspired by the rice terraces found in the Philippines, the Boll Lamp has a tiered design. The form further suggests that these terraces are surrounded by water, casting a reflection that extends the design further. Nevertheless, there is no water. The design is simply mirrored for a more full effect.

Designed by Jonathan Dorthe of Atelier-D, an industrial design studio based in Montreal, Canada, the Boll Lamp is made out of light birch, which has been wrapped in bands of sycamore veneer. Created in different widths, the bands give the Boll Lamp an elleptical shape. Inspired by Scandinavian design rather than rice fields, it has a simple aesthetic that goes a long way. When turned on, the wood grains are accentuated.
