Colored Resin Tables

Andy Martin's 'Blocks Tables' Distort Viewers' Perspectives

Andy Martin's 'Blocks Tables' are designed to distort viewers' perspectives, harnessing the manipulation of light and color to disorient them as much as possible. The tables are made from layers of translucent and clear resin that have tints and fades of various colors, causing light to diffract and refract in odd and unexpected ways.

The London-based designer's tables currently come in two colors: one fades from yellow to clear and the other combines a tranquil blue with a dramatic magenta dot. Both of these tables come with either a brushed finish or perfect clear resin.

The biggest challenge in creating the Blocks Tables, according to Martin, was achieving a completely unblemished look with the resin. The material is notoriously difficult to mold without creating air bubbles, but such imperfections would ruin the optical illusions that the tables create.
