Building Block Storage Cabinets

Shigeki Yamamoto Draws Inspiration from Childhood Memories

Berlin-based designer Shigeki Yamamoto creates a utilitarian-inspired, overtly sophisticated, highly detailed and uniform building block storage cabinet. Composed of an impressive matrix framework of perforated wooden strips, the Play Cabinet reflects Shigeki Yamamoto's desire to create furniture designs that are able to translate themselves as "a part of [the consumer's] life, to excite emotions and bring back memories of the past."

The building block storage cabinet ties into the Berlin-based creative's extensive portfolio. Not only is the structure playful in exterior, the darkly colored wood allows it to blend in with various interior styles. In addition, its smart framework allows for rearrangement, "adjustments and reconfiguration simply by switching to another hole."

In a sense, Shigeki Yamamoto succeeds in optimizing the joy and carefree connotations of childhood through an adult-size building block structure.
