The world's first Bitcoin vending machine is operational and installed in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The machine is up and running at a cigar shop called lmbibe which is near the University of New Mexico. You are able to insert cash and receive a digital stash of bitcoins in exchange.
Although people have been calling them Bitcoin ATMs, Lamassu is the creator and prefers the term vending machine since it does not function the same way at an ATM would in dispensing cash.
Enchanted Bitcoins is the company that owns the Albuquerque machine says that it has eliminated some problematic hurdles by establishing a full anti-money laundering program and registering as a money services business with the U.S Department of Treasury's Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN). This is a big step in the direction of digital currency and it seems as though we will be seeing Bitcoin vending machines in more places very soon.
