The Seattle-based architecture firm, Best Practice Architecture, has converted a backyard shed into a functional home office and workout room. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, many found their living spaces unfavorable for quarantine, which gave way to the new trend of the functional backyard shed.
The firm called this project Shed-O-Vation, and was designed for a home in Seattle's Madonna neighborhood. The clients hired the firm to convert the shed into a functional space that could double as an office and a gym. The architects expanded the original building by 92 square feet and emulated the main house's design aesthetic. To open up the space, the designers inserted an accordion window that connects the shed to the backyard landscape. The shelving units and desks were intricately built in order to optimize space.
