Leafy Bamboo Performance Spaces

DnA's Bamboo Theater is Completely Natural

Bamboo is among the most abundant natural resources in all of Asia, so DnA, a Chinese architecture firm, is using the material as the sole structure of its Bamboo Theater. Rather than building a theater for traditional performances, DnA opted to grow one. The theater is made from arching trees that form a canopy around a simple circle of stone benches, using the natural cover of bamboo leaves to create a theater space.

Of course, the Bamboo Theater didn't grow completely naturally. DnA intervened in order to gently shape the bamboo dome. Bamboo is an incredibly fast-growing plant, so the project was able to be completed quickly after its initial conception. The Bamboo Theater also requires very little maintenance now that it's taken shape, with DnA only having to weave new shoots into the existing dome.
