Tree-Based Bungalows

Peruvian Architect Arturo Ghezzi Built a Bungalow Around an Existing Tree

Peruvian architect Arturo Ghezzi has built a wooden bungalow around an existing tree in such a way that the tree is infused into the bungalow's structure with its main trunk sprouting through the kitchen.

Located in the Miraflores district of the Peruvian capital Lima, the bungalow was carefully designed by Arturo Ghezzi so as it to include the tree in the house's architectural aesthetic, rather than make the infusion look like a gimmick. By infusing the tree into the kitchen and dining room, the spatial boundaries between the inside and outside are uniquely framed.

The bungalow's ceilings feature a pair of large openings through which the tree's twin trunks extend out towards the sky, as well as several smaller openings that bathe the residence in light.
