Artificial Tongue Carefully Differentiates Between Sugars & Sweeteners

Using a method of converting the chemical and physical reaction of the tongue into an image, scientist have created a (sort of) artificial tongue. The artificial tongue detects any pH level changes when a sweet substance is placed on the business card-sized device and reacts to a derivative of the chemical boric acid, just like the real thing.

What scientists didn’t expect was for the artificial tongue to be as good, possibly better, than the real thing. After multiple tests (80 trials), the artificial tongue was able to single out 14 kinds of natural and artificial sweeteners with 100% accuracy.

Quite the scientific recreation if you ask me!
