Overshadowing Sticky Notes at the Rijksmuseum Offer Art Therapy

While art is known to soothe the soul and be very therapeutic, Alain de Botton's sticky note art therapy is taking self-improvement to new creative heights. The writer and television presenter filled Amsterdam's Rijksmuseum with large yellow post-it notes offering life advice. This is appropriate given the neon sign over the museum's entrance currently reads 'Art is Therapy,' mimicking de Botton's newest book Art as Therapy, written with philosopher and art historian John Armstrong.

Rijksmuseum director Wim Pijbes invited the authors to intervene after the museum reopened last year in an effort to boost visitor numbers. The resulting oversized sticky notes appear all over the museum, giving guests a new form of art therapy in addition to the existing exhibited works.
