Artist Sarah Illenberger Uses Leaves as Her Art Canvas

Sarah Illenberger is a talented artist that goes beyond the use of traditional materials for her tools and art canvases to create works of art as stunning as these Wonderplants installations. The series features twelve different plants covered in technicolor bits of tape to create geometric pattern designs.

Illenberger's work uses live materials as well as animate objects to create stunningly simplified works of art. The pieces all range in size and aesthetic as Illenberger picks different plants from a garden in Porto, Portugal to use as her canvas. She then binds the leaves of the plants with colored tape in blue, yellow, purple and pink hues to create patterns of dots, stripes, squiggles and even Aztec prints.
