Crime-Tackling Creative Projects

The Art Against Knives 'Focused Young Individuals' Exhibition

When it comes to governments, art and culture are often left on the back-burner in terms of funding, but Art Against Knives knows the value of creative projects and the impact it can have on positive social change. The latest initiative coming out of the youth charity is an art exhibition called Focused Young Individuals, or F.Y.I.

Art Against Knives came out of a will to raise awareness about gang violence after then 21-year-old Oliver Hemsley was stabbed in Shoreditch, East London. Their latest exhibition, Focused Young Individuals, which includes the work from thirty creatives, follows along the same mission-driven lines.

"All of the young people involved in the project are young people that ourselves, YhWorld and Poached Creative work with -- they are all incredible examples of young, creative and positive role models to other young people in Hackney," one youth involved in the project, Katy Dawe, told Dazed Digital.
