The Armadillo House by Formwerkz Architects Features a Shell-Inspired Facade

The Armadillo House by Formwerkz Architects takes its inspiration from the shelled animal. Creating a defensive facade, the design studio gives this home protection from Singapore's noise pollution and from the sun's rays.

The shell-like facade of the home is created to mimic the animal's skin that serves as its protection from threats. Located beside a busy intersection and highway, this residence is also directly exposed to the sun.

The home is 2.5 storeys, housing most of its living spaces underground and shielding its inhabitants from the harsh noise factors challenging its site. Moreover, the home's upper levels are equipped with mechanical fans drawing air to the basement and protecting from extreme weather conditions.
