This Apartment in Brussels Features a Space-Conserving Cube

Belgian architecture studio AUXAU redesigned an apartment in Brussels' Flagey-Ixelles neighborhood. The original design featured only a single bedroom and a connected bathroom, along with a small living area and separate kitchen with a distinctly 70s aesthetic.

Wanting to start fresh, the architects emptied the entire structural contents of the apartment. A cube was then installed in what was formerly the second room of the apartment. The space-efficient system contains the apartment's kitchen, toilets and a separate bathroom. The cube also opened up enough space for the architects to install two separate bedrooms and expand the size of the living room.

Beyond conserving space and visually breaking up the floor plan, the cube allows light to flood into the apartment.
