Roughly 2 to 3 million women work as commercial sex workers in India, an occupation that presents an abundance of hardships and abuse while simultaneously compromising the opportunity to receive an education.
Through design, craft, education and community-building, Anchal is providing a sustainable, income-generation initiative for local woman. Through local leadership, the workers at Anchal use professional skills training to uncover the unrecognized potential in each artisan.
By providing the workers with educational opportunities that would not normally be afforded to them in the commercial sex trade, Anchal is helping young woman build confidence, increase a sense of self-worth and become inspired to pursue a life free of subjugation and abuse.
