Delft Robotics Won This Year's Amazon Picking Challenge

The Amazon Picking Challenge runs as a way to engage the robotics community in improving warehouse automation. This year, teams from 28 international institutions took part in the second annual challenge from Amazon and Robocup 2016.

The winner of the 2016 Amazon Picking Challenge came from Delft Robotics, a team from the Netherlands that won both the pick and stow tasks at the event.

Delft Robotics' incredible industrial robot employs a variety of technologies in order to execute tasks. This includes dynamic path planning, 3D vision, as well as a gripper to handle objects. Delft Robotics noted the importance of having all systems working to support one another, saying: "Even though we saw components from competitors that on their own might perform better, we had the better system because all our components were tuned to each other and integrated perfectly."
