Dub Reggae Plug-Ins

AudioThing's Alborosie Dub Station Recreates King Tubby's Hardware Sound

The Alborosie Dub Station is a new creative plug-in by AudioThing Ltd., which emulates the original echos, spring reverb, and filter of the legendary dub reggae artist, King Tubby. The Alborosie Dub Station user interface contains three unique effects that are stacked vertically on top of one another, which resemble the original hardware units by mimicking the classic rack-mount design and knob styles.

Osbourne Ruddock, otherwise known as King Tubby, was a Jamaican sound engineer famous for pioneering dub during the 1970s, and is respected today for his influence within electronic music production. The Alborosie Dub Station recreates the genre's famous effects through analyzing and sampling the original hardware units from Alborosie's personal collection, another influential Jamaican dub reggae artist.

The Alborosie Dub Station effects include the FILTER MAN, ECHOWUK, and SPRING BLING. FILTER MAN is an 11 step, passive high-pass filter, modelled after King Tubby's "Big Knob." The ECHOWUK is an echo effect recreating the MCI Two-Track tape hardware unit from King Tubby's old studio. SPRING BLING is a recreation of King Tubby's modified Fairchild Spring Reverb, also from his studio in Jamaica.
