Titled 'Fashion in Motion,' this Kansai Yamamoto collection features a unique blend of fashion and theater—as a whole, it's quite a performance. Inspired by "basara" and "kabuku," meaning anything that's a little out there, or literally, "slanted," this collection definitely has some elements of rebellion. Specifically, Yamamoto describes the "Rebellious spirit found in extreme beauty."
The looks that debuted at the V&A were anything but quiet, featuring models with bold painted faces and eccentric, wild kimono styles that were made up of a variety of embellishments, colors and patterns. After years of economic stagnation, this show is meant to represent a contrast to all of the low energy that's been going on with looks that are shocking and make a big visual impact.
