The George Micro Apartment Embraces Its Small Size

The George micro apartment creatively uses space and design to create something functional and beautiful. Designed by J-IN's Douglass Wan, this unique space comes as a renovation to a studio apartment that once housed nurses in the 1950s. Coming in at just 28 square meters, the small space is fully equipped with all the amenities of an apartment double its size. A corridor of hidden storage separates the front door from the living area and is constructed entirely of plywood. The bed doubles as a large seating area, and thanks to a floating plywood fixture, further storage is found above the sleeping area. The kitchen is located on the other side of the storage wall and uses an opening in the pass to allow light to stream through.

The George micro apartment is an amazing example of effective use of space. As apartments grow smaller and more cramped, it is imperative that more designers and architects look to examples like this to make the most of the small spaces available. The apartment is focused on smart design and in doing so, manages to work with the minimal space, instead of working around it.
